Apple has officially rolled out its long-anticipated Music migration feature in the United States, giving Spotify listeners an easier path to switch over without losing their carefully curated libraries. The tool, which has already been available in countries like Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, is now extending its reach to Apple’s largest market.
The process is designed to be straightforward. Within the Apple Music app on iPhone, iPad, or even Android devices, users can head into Settings and select the option to move music from another service. Powered by SongShift, the tool transfers playlists, albums, favorites, and saved tracks directly into Apple’s platform. After logging in to a Spotify account (or another supported service), users pick the collections they want to bring over. Apple then finds matches in its own catalog, suggesting replacements when exact versions aren’t available. Importantly, the original Spotify library remains untouched.
For added flexibility, Apple has also enabled browser-based transfers through music.apple.com. Users have up to 30 days to double-check any unmatched tracks, making sure playlists remain as close to the originals as possible. This review window is especially useful for those with niche or rare music selections.
By eliminating one of the biggest frustrations of switching services—the fear of leaving years of playlists behind—Apple is making a clear play for Spotify’s audience. With Apple Music already accessible in more than 160 markets worldwide, the U.S. launch of this tool strengthens its position in the increasingly competitive streaming space.
This update signals Apple’s determination to challenge Spotify’s dominance. By emphasizing convenience and accuracy, Apple Music is positioning itself as not only a premium service but also a practical alternative for listeners who might finally be ready to make the jump.
