At their “Glowtime” event, Apple revealed the highly anticipated AirPods 4, featuring notable upgrades such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and USB-C charging. These improvements elevate the AirPods 4, making them a compelling option for both everyday users and audio enthusiasts.
Active Noise Cancellation for Enhanced Listening
For the first time, Apple has introduced ANC in the AirPods 4, previously reserved for the Pro models. This feature offers a significant boost to the listening experience, particularly in noisy environments, allowing users to enjoy their music or podcasts without distractions. The standard version of AirPods 4, while lacking ANC, still delivers improved sound quality and features a sleeker, shorter stem design.
Both models now include USB-C charging, aligning with Apple’s ongoing transition away from the Lightning connector. The premium model also incorporates a built-in speaker within the case, enabling users to track their AirPods more easily using the Find My network.
Powered by the H2 Chip
The AirPods 4 are equipped with Apple’s advanced H2 chip, which enhances pairing speed, battery efficiency, and connectivity with Bluetooth 5.3. Additionally, the chip supports Personalized Spatial Audio, which creates an immersive sound experience, and allows for smoother switching between devices.
Design Tweaks for Comfort and Fit
The design of AirPods 4 takes cues from both the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro, featuring shorter stems and an ergonomically refined shape. This results in a more comfortable and secure fit, accommodating a broader range of ear shapes.
Apple has also introduced more flexible charging options. Both versions of AirPods 4 can now be charged via USB-C or an Apple Watch charger, providing added convenience for users who are always on the move.
Pricing and Availability
The standard AirPods 4 are priced at $129, while the model with ANC will cost $179. Pre-orders are now live, and shipments will begin on September 20.
With its blend of advanced features, such as ANC, USB-C charging, and the H2 chip, the AirPods 4 offers a premium listening experience at a competitive price, solidifying Apple’s position as a leader in the wireless earbud market.
