Apple is gearing up to reveal the iPhone 17 series this September, and as always, the Pro and Pro Max models are set to lead the lineup. While both devices will share many of the same premium features, the Pro Max is expected to stand out with a few distinct advantages.
Bigger Screen and More Power
The iPhone 17 Pro will come with a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max will feature a larger 6.9-inch screen. The size gap isn’t new, but this year the Pro Max may widen its lead with stronger battery performance. Reports indicate that the Pro Max will be about 5% thicker than its predecessor, allowing room for a battery close to 5,000 mAh. The iPhone 17 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to maintain a similar profile and battery size to the iPhone 16 Pro.
Cameras Stay Aligned
In terms of photography, both models appear to be on equal footing. Each is rumored to include a triple 48-megapixel rear camera system alongside a new 24-megapixel front-facing camera. Unlike in some past years, no exclusive camera upgrades have been linked specifically to the Pro Max.
Earlier speculation suggested the Pro Max might debut a smaller Dynamic Island, but recent leaks point to either a broader rollout across all iPhone 17 models or a delay until a future generation.
Who Should Choose Which?
At first glance, the two models look nearly identical. The key differences boil down to display size and endurance. For users who prioritize more screen space and extended battery life, the Pro Max offers a clear edge. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro remains an appealing option for those who want premium performance in a slightly more compact design.
